Judge at the Milan Court of Appeal, Professor of Law and Life Sciences at the University of Pavia (I), co-founder of the Consulta di Bioetica (Council of Bioethics), President of the Interdepartmental Research Centre of the University of Pavia “European Centre for Life Sciences, Health and the Courts”
Short Bio:
Since 1997, he has cooperated with the Scientific Committee of the Italian Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura (CSM, Supreme Council of the Judiciary) in teaching and in the organization of courses on biotechnology and bioethics. He is author of the project on "Education in Bioethics", approved by the CSM (November 1998). He took part in the ad hoc committee on Hydration and Nutrition in PVS patients, set up by the Italian Minister of Health in October 2000 and in the ad hoc committee on Transplants from living donors, set up by the Minister of Health in March 2001. He served as a member of the Ministerial Commission on End of Life Decisions (December 2006).
Since the Academic Year 2004-2005 he has been professor of “Law and Life sciences” at the Faculty of Law, University of Pavia.
He teaches “Science and Law” at the International PhD course, Foundations of Life Science and Their Ethical Consequences, University of Milano and European School of Molecular Medicine.

Funzione:
Giudice presso la Corte d’Appello di Milano, Professore di Diritto e scienze della vita presso la Facoltà di Giurisprudenza dell’Università degli Studi di Pavia, cofondatore della Consulta di bioetica, Presidente del Centro di Ricerca Interdipartimentale dell’European Centre for Life Sciences, Health and the Courts dell’Università di Pavia.
Cenni biografici:
A partire dal 1997 collabora con il comitato scientifico del Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura nell’insegnamento e nell’organizzazione di corsi sulle biotecnologie e la bioetica. E’ autore del progetto sull’”Educazione in bioetica” approvato dal CSM nel 1998. Ha fatto parte del Comitato ad hoc sull’idratazione e l’alimentazione nei pazienti in stato vegetativo persistente, istituito dal Ministro della Sanità italiano nel 2000, e del Comitato ad hoc sui trapianti da donatori viventi, istituito sempre dal Ministro della Sanità nel 2001.
A partire dall’anno accademico 2004-2005 insegna Diritto e Scienze della Vita presso la Facoltà di Giurisprudenza dell’Università di Pavia.
Insegna inoltre “Science and Law” presso lo International PhD course, Foundations of Life Science and Their Ethical Consequences, dell’Università di Milano e della European School of Molecular Medicine (SEMM).
