Function:
Spanish physician and politician; professor of Regenerative Medicine, Seville; Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs in the present and former Spanish government headed by José Luis Zapatero.
Short Bio:
Soria graduated in Medicine at the Universidad de Valencia. Postdoctoral in Germany (Max Plank Institut fur Biophysikalische Chemie) and United Kingdom (UEA). He was the Coordinator of the Physiology Area in the Agencia Nacional de Evaluacion y Prospectiva and of the European Embryonic Stem Cell Network. He was Professor of Physiology in Alicante and Director of the Centro Andaluz de Biologia Molecular y Medicina Regenerativa in Sevilla. He has been the President of the Societies of Biophysics(1997-2000), Physiology (1998-2000) and Diabetes (2000-2004) and the European Biophysics Societies Association (2000-2003). He has been awarded many prizes, among them the Gold Medal and Prize of the Royal Academy of Medicine (1989). In 2005 he was awarded the Premio Galien for the best research work. He published a great number of articles in international scientific reviews. In 2007 he was appointed Minister of Health and Consumer affairs, to replace Elena Salgado.
