Patrick Moore Ambassador for EXPO 2015

"We believe that his work is crucial to counter the misinformation on the subject, which causes victims, unnecessary suffering, as well as food shortages. "

To the President of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Matteo Renzi
To the Commissioner of Expo 2015, Dr. Giuseppe Sala
To the President of the Region of Lombardy, Hon. Roberto Maroni
To the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Maurizio Martina
To the Mayor of Milan, Hon. Giuliano Pisapia

The title of Expo 2015 is "Feeding the planet, energy for life", we believe that in such a context, a  discussion on Genetically Modified Organisms is needed, and it should be promoted through national and international scientific figures, who have been engaged to raise public awareness on the benefits of GMOs and who may present the experimental data on the subject. For these reasons

Patrick Moore is one of the most known environmentalist with a crystal clear reputation since the inception of his career, he is one of the true founders of Greenpeace in the 1970s and has been active in some of the key campaigns of that organization from the opposition to nuclear testing to that of whaling.

Over the past 15 years, Mr. Moore has been involved in activities related to climate change and food shortage in general adopting an original, but not isolated, approach in the environmental movement: the systematic control of the scientifically proved data.

A rational approach that prefers reasoning to emotions, uses the brain not the heart.

This approach has led him to become the main voice for the international campaign to support the experimentations and distribution of the "Golden Rice", a rice enriched with provitamin A, conceived by the scientist Ingo Potrykus, with the aim of increasing the intake of vitamin A in people who have a diet based exclusively on rice and that dramatically causes hundreds of thousands of cases of child blindness precisely because of the lack of vitamins, and because vitamin A is not available in any other way.

It is a humanitarian project, totally free for farmers who wish to adopt this enriched rice, and totally free from the economic interests of the international seed companies.

For his extraordinary work, which could be taken as an example for other similar initiatives and for his now 10-year commitment to the environment, food and the correctness of scientific information in the field of agro-food technologies and genetically modified organisms, and to counter the misinformation on a topic that causes victims, unnecessary suffering, nutritional deficiencies, vitamin deficiency and blindness we suggest Patrick Moore as Ambassador for EXPO 2015.
